An Eye for an Eye: The Incredible Story of Ameneh Bahrami

Ameneh Bahrami (Persian: آمنه بهرامی; born 1978 in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian woman blinded in an acid attack. She became the focus of international controversy after demanding that her attacker, Majid Movahedi, be punished by being similarly blinded. The punishment is permitted under the Qisas principle of sharia law.

 
Attack:
After Bahrami rejected the romantic advances of Movahedi, a fellow student at the University of Tehran, he threw a bucket of acid in her face in October 2004. She subsequently underwent 17 surgeries, some in Spain, but remains badly disfigured and blind in both eyes.
The Iranian government has paid £22,500 towards her treatment.

Trial and response:
Bahrami testified against Movahedi at his trial. She informed the court that she desired “to inflict the same life on him that he inflicted on me”. She requested that twenty drops of acid be dropped in his eyes.

Tehran’s deputy public prosecutor, Mahmoud Salarkia, defended the punishment. “If this sentence is properly publicized in the media, it will stop the repetition of such incidents,” he said. “Awareness of the punishment has a huge deterrent effect in stopping social crimes.”However, human rights advocates strongly criticized the punishment.

The punishment was due to be carried out on April 15, 2009, Movahedi’s appeal was rejected by the court, although the blinding did not take place that year. A new punishment date of May 14, 2011 was revealed, but again the punishment was not carried out, and was postponed indefinitely. On July 31, 2011, Ameneh forgave and pardoned her attacker, stating that she did so for her country.

True story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake

While I was scrolling down my fb page, i saw this story. I checked it’s authenticity and now sharing it with you, here it is:

After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.
He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement,” A child! There is a child! “

The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.

The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket. There was a text message on the screen. It said,” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. ” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” Such is the mother’s love for her child!!

16-YEAR-OLD RAPED, BLACKMAILED BY CLASSMATE, 3 FRIENDS

The girl alleged she was first raped by her classmate and later on by his three friends.

According to police, the girl was befriended sometime back by her classmate. He engaged in sexual activities with her in March 2013.

Later on the juvenile started blackmailing her claiming he would tell his friends. He made the girl engage in sexual relationships with his three friends.

The victim was scared to talk about the incident to anyone. She was raped for months. The victim later narrated her ordeal to her parents who approached police.

“The girl is a student of Std XI in Shalimar Bagh. The juvenile and one of the accused have been arrested; the other two are as yet absconding,” said a police official.

A gold medallist in library science, and an MA in literature and history.

Mr. Kalyana Sundaram, as people might know is a philanthropist, who prefers to work quietly. He had worked as a Librarian for 30 years. In his 30 year of service, he had donated his entire salary to help the needy. He had worked as a waiter in a hotel to meet his needs. His humility and down to earth character lead him to donate even his pension amount of about 10 Lac rupees to the needy.

This modesty has made him the first person in the world to spend the entire earnings for a social cause. In recognition to his service, UNO awarded him as one of the Outstanding People of the 20th Century. An American organisation honoured him with the “Man of the Millennium” award.  And as part of this award he received a sum of Rs 30 million which he distributed entirely for the needy as usual.

Moved by his passion to help others, Super Star Rajinikanth adopted him as his father. Mr. Kalyana Sundaram still stays as a bachelor and had dedicated his entire life for serving the society. He runs a social welfare organisation, `Paalam’.

Highlights in Life:

1. When he was at college, the Indo-China war broke out, and he contributed his gold chain tothe then Chief Minister, Kamaraj, for the war fund. At this time around, he went to meet Balasubramanian, Editor, Ananda Vikatan.  “He sent me away, saying he would write about me the day I donated something I had earned myself. I did not speak a word to anyone about what I had done. I took it as a challenge,”
2. Ever since he got a job as a librarian in Tuticorin, he has contributed all his salary, pension benefits and ancestral property to social welfare.
3. When he received his pension arrears and contributed it to the Collector’s Fund, that the then Tiruneveli Collector felicitated him, despite his protests.
4. The `Paalam’- Means Bridge [HIS SOCIAL ORGANIZATION] serves as a bridge between donors and beneficiaries: it collects money and materials from those willing to donate and distribute them among the weaker sections.
5. It has also contributed to the cyclone relief funds in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, and has helped the earthquake victims in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

His Future Goal:

1)    He was popular among college and school students, and many of them have joined his organization.

2)   He has long-term plans for his organization. One is the setting up of a nationalized digital library with modern equipment, which could be accessed by people from all walks of life.

3)   He also wants to set up an international children’s university in Tamil Nadu, with foreign aid. However, he says, a mission has a meaning only when the right people are involved in it.

4)   The Directorate of Public Libraries should recruit people with a library science background to be librarians, he says. “And good librarians should have a broad knowledge of everything.”

This 8 Year Old Bride Died on her Wedding Night. When You See Why, You’ll Be Sick

An 8 year-old Yemeni child bride, recently died on her wedding night from internal haemorrhaging.

She was married to a man 5 times her age. As disgusting as the tradition of marrying off children to much older men is, it is common practice in Yemen. More than a quarter of the female population are married before the age of 15.

In 2010, a 12 year-old girl passed away after struggling for 3 days in labor, attempting to give birth to a baby.

Countless other children have been subjected to similar atrocities.

At only 8 years-old, one child bride in Yemen sustained internal injuries so severe, she died.

Marrying young daughters to much older men is a common practice in Yemen.

More than a quarter or Yemen’s female population marry before the age of 15.

These atrocities against young girls have outraged groups all over the world who are working to stop this barbaric tradition.

Groups all over the world are working to snuff out this archaic and disgusting practice, but its proving difficult.

The impoverished country is gripped by the practice of selling off children to be married; poor families find themselves unable to say no to “bride-prices” that can be hundreds of dollars for their daughters.

Mumbai gangrape: Have you seen these five men?

After detaining and questioning over 20 people in the case of photojournalist who was gangraped by five men in Mumbai last night, the police have released the sketches of five accused who allegedly raped the girl in Parel area.

These sketches were prepared after the police recorded statement of the victim and her colleague.

According to a CNN-IBN report, “The survivor was threatened by five men with a beer bottle if she cried out for help. The male colleague accompanying the woman was tied up and beaten by the accused.”

The residents of Mumbai have expressed shock and concern and feel the city is fast losing its tag as a safe place for women.

The woman has also managed to provide the names of two of the accused – Rupesh and Sajid.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Satypal Singh told reporters that the accused tricked the survivor asking if she had permission to shoot in the area.

 “In the evening the woman and her colleague were clicking pictures. Two men approached her asking if she had permission to shoot. Another man then joined in and the photographer was gangraped. We have brought in 10 people for questioning. A case of gangrape has been registered,” said Satypal Singh.

The victim is being treated at Jaslok Hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

Asaram Bapu booked in Delhi for sexual assault on minor

Delhi Police have booked self-styled godman Asaram Babu on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

A zero FIR under section 376 was lodged at Kamla Market police station in central Delhi. on Tuesday evening.

The case pertains to the rape of a girl at a hostel in Jodhpur. “We registered the complaint, but the girl said the incident occurred in Rajasthan, so the case will be forwarded to Rajasthan,” a police officer told IANS.

The case is being supervised by Joint CP Tejendra Luthra and inspector Pramod Joshi is investigating the matter. DCP Alok Kumar may question the godman, sources say.

The girl’s father is a transporter in Shahjahanpur in UP. Jodhpur and Shahjahanpur police had earlier refused to lodge an FIR after which the victim came to Delhi and made heer complaint.

The cops are approaching the case cautiously so as not to risk hurting the religious sentiments of a community.

Asaram Bapu, who has a large following, was earlier in the news after Gujarat Police filed a case of attempted murder against him and two others. He was also accused of illegal land-grabbing in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
